Alternators are widely used in automobiles; when operating them, the following points should be observed:
① Regularly clean accumulated grime and dust from the exterior of the alternator to ensure it remains clean and well-ventilated.
② Frequently inspect the tightness of all fasteners associated with the alternator, and promptly tighten any loose screws.
③ The tension of the drive belt must be appropriate. If too loose, it may slip, resulting in insufficient power generation; if too tight, it may damage the belt and the alternator bearings.
④ When installing the battery, strictly avoid incorrect connections; typically, the positive cable should be connected first, followed by the ground cable. Reversing this order can very easily burn out the diodes.
⑤ When using an alternator equipped with an integrated circuit regulator, the ignition switch must be turned off immediately whenever the engine is not running.
⑥ It is strictly forbidden to use the "spark test" method (momentarily touching a wire to ground to check for a spark) to verify whether the alternator is generating power.
⑦ If the alternator malfunctions or fails to generate power, the fault must be diagnosed and repaired promptly; failure to do so may lead to more severe system failures.
