Working Principle

- Automatic Disengagement: After the engine starts, the flywheel speed exceeds that of the drive gear, causing the overrunning clutch to slip and prevent the motor from being back-driven. Simultaneously, the solenoid de-energizes, and a spring resets the drive gear to its original position, cutting off the motor circuit and stopping the starter.
