Starter Motor 1756795: Features, Working Principle & Specifications
Core Features
The 1756795 is a 12V permanent magnet gear reduction (PMGR) starter motor designed for Ford Europe passenger and light commercial vehicles. It is an OEM grade component with these key traits:
Permanent Magnet Field
Uses high strength permanent magnets for higher efficiency and lighter weight compared to field coil designs.
Planetary Gear Reduction
Built in gear set to multiply cranking torque while maintaining a compact form factor.
Integrated Solenoid
Topmounted electromagnetic solenoid controlling both pinion engagement and high current motor power delivery.
11 Tooth Drive Pinion
Precision machined pinion for reliable meshing with the engine flywheel ring gear.
Robust Flange Mount
Standard 3 hole flange for secure engine block installation.
OEM Compatibility
Matches Ford's original equipment specifications for reliable cold start performance and durability.

Working Principle
The starter operates in four sequential stages, converting electrical energy into mechanical cranking torque:
- Solenoid Activation: When the ignition switch is engaged, a low current control signal energizes the solenoid's electromagnet, pulling an internal plunger forward.
- Pinion Engagement: The plunger pushes the drive pinion (via a shift lever) axially to mesh with the engine's flywheel ring gear.
- Motor Power & Cranking: As the pinion fully engages, the plunger closes heavy duty internal contacts, allowing high current (hundreds of amps) from the vehicle battery to flow into the DC motor. The motor's armature rotates rapidly; torque is multiplied by the planetary gear reduction set, driving the flywheel to crank the engine until combustion starts.
- Disengagement & Cut Off: Once the engine fires and its speed exceeds the starter's speed, an overrunning clutch in the pinion assembly slips to prevent back driving the motor. The solenoid de energizes, a return spring retracts the pinion, and power to the motor is cut.
