Starter Motor 28100 0D030: Features, Working Principle & Specifications
Core Features
The 28100 0D030 is a 12V permanentmagnet gear reduction (PMGR) starter motor manufactured by DENSO for Toyota passenger vehicles (primarily gasoline engines like 1.6L/1.8L 4ZZ FE/3ZZ FE). It is an OEM grade component with these key traits:
- Compact & Lightweight Design: Small form factor with high power density, ideal for engine bays with limited space.
- Permanent Magnet Field: Uses high strength permanent magnets instead of field coils, reducing weight and improving efficiency.
- Planetary Gear Reduction: Built in planetary gear set to multiply cranking torque while keeping the motor small.
- Integrated Solenoid: Top mounted electromagnetic solenoid that controls both pinion engagement and high current motor power.
- 11 Tooth Drive Pinion: Precision machined pinion for reliable meshing with the engine flywheel ring gear.
- 2 Mounting Hole Flange: Standard flange with 2 mounting holes for secure engine block installation.
- OEM Quality: Built to Toyota/DENSO specifications for reliable cold start performance and long service life.

Working Principle
The starter operates in four sequential stages, converting electrical energy into mechanical cranking torque:
Solenoid Activation
When the ignition switch is engaged, a low current control signal energizes the solenoid's electromagnet. This pulls an internal plunger forward.
Motor Power & Cranking
We offer a variety of transmission components, including sprockets, roller chains, gears, couplings, racks, hubs, pulleys, taper sleeves, bearing seats, and more.
Motor Power & Cranking
As the pinion fully engages, the plunger closes heavy duty internal contacts, allowing high current (hundreds of amps) from the vehicle battery to flow into the DC motor. The motor's armature rotates rapidly; torque is multiplied by the planetary gear reduction set, driving the flywheel to crank the engine until combustion starts.
Disengagement & CutOff
Once the engine fires and its speed exceeds the starter's speed, an overrunning clutch in the pinion assembly slips to prevent back driving the motor. The solenoid deenergizes, a return spring retracts the pinion, and power to the motor is cut.
